Who is Bri?

Hey!

I’m Bri (which I’m sure you have already gathered). I am a vibrant twenty-one year old living in California, but I call Kelowna, British Columbia home. I am a current Chiropractic student who has a love for nutrition, fitness, health, and a SICK adventure.

I have considered starting a blog for a long time but always thought… who would want to hear about my life.. other than maybe my mom and my next door neighbour (probably just about the only people who will read this. HI MOM!!) but, I like to think that I live a pretty interesting life and have some pretty neat things to share.

My love for the human body began once I transferred from my general science degree to human kinetics. I couldn’t get enough information about exercise, nutrition and overall well-being. That sparked my decision to quickly (and I mean extremely quickly) pack up all my things and move to another country to further my study of the human body and become a Chiropractor. I am almost a year into my doctorate degree and the body is still the most amazing, beautiful and FREAKING CRAZY COMPLICATED thing I get the pleasure of learning about.

I think that the fact that we are THE chosen sperm in a pool of 20-100 million of them with the fusion of your mother’s egg is a miracle in itself. We only have one body and it is my hope that we choose to treat it the way it deserves to be treated… like a miracle! After all, it is the only one we get, and we have to live with it until we die, which is hopefully in the very VERY far future for us.

I wanted to create a place where I get to completely nerd out and share all of my passions in one place. This blog is going to have everything from my favourite nutritious recipes and exercises to my weekend adventures on the west coast sprinkled with my life as a student.

It may be crazy, but thats me and thats life with Bri.

A (Wet) Weekend Getaway at Big Basin

A few weeks ago a friend and I decided to go on a quick one-night backpacking trip near home. We had been working really hard at school and we both needed a break, so much that we didn’t care to look at the weather.

The week leading up to the weekend had been wet and rainy, and in our post-midterm minds, we thought that by driving one hour from home would somehow send the sunshine gods our way. As it turns out…. the sunshine gods decided to hold off. Instead, we were treated by pouring rain. When I say pouring, I don’t mean a little drizzle. I mean super soaker full force downpour, still can’t see when your windshield wipers are on the highest speed… rain.

Both of us being very stubborn, very Canadian girls, neither of us were going to back down from the backpacking weekend. Plus, I had been itching to get out of Hawyard and get in nature, so off we went.

The hike up, although dripping from head to toe, was SPECTACULAR. It was hard to believe that we weren’t in the Amazon rain forest. The trees were massive and green and the air was crisp and clean. Safe to say, we were in heaven, especially after many months of practically no green. We passed there amazing waterfalls that had us already planning our next trip back.

Once we arrived at our destination we were extremely tired… but extremely wet. So, to keep warm we re-walked our entire hike up (just to see the waterfalls again… and again on the way back up).

We ended up getting back to camp after sunset and warming up over a nice pot of Annies pasta. The best part of camping is cooking together for me, there is nothing like a meal to fill you up so you can pass out in your tent. We did stay dry throughout the night and the next morning was only drizzling as we packed up to head home.

Although things didn’t go as planned an we ended up soaking wet with sore feet from walking back and forth, I would do it all over again. Sometimes the best trips are those which challenge you mentally and physically. I also HIGHLY suggest big basin redwood state park for anyone who loves a quick backpack or longer hike. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I am patiently waiting until I get the chance to experience all the forest has for me, this time maybe a little sun wouldn’t hurt.

Love,
